Doctor, Why Is My Blood Pressure High?

The Quality of Your Life Comes Down to the Questions You Ask Yourself.
Most people and doctors fail to ask the right questions when it comes to health and disease.  They run a myriad of tests and if they see a certain  up or down, they prescribe a drug/supplement or cut out an organ to raise or lower the #.  The key question that must be asked is why is that # up or down? 

In truth, the body was created with an incredible healing & life forming power that took us from 2 half cells to nearly 100 trillion cells.  This same power runs every system and function in our body.  The body has certain natural needs and requirements that when met create an inner peace, harmony, & homeostasis.  This is health.  When there is a dangerous level of toxicity or deficiency in any of these necessary requirements, a state of disharmony occurs causing decreased function and disease.

Asprin Causes High Blood Pressure:
Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, & aspirin are the most commonly used drugs in the US.  “Clinicians commonly do NOT understand that acetaminophen is NOT safe, and causes significant hypertension.”

“Older women (51-77) who too >500mg per day had a 93% inc. risk of hypertension.  Younger women (34-53) who took >500 mg per day had a 99% inc. risk of hypertension.

NSAID’s have been known to harm the kidneys and cause GI bleeding.  Acetaminophen causes hypertension because it depletes glutathione, leading to renal endothelial dysfunction.”

People with High Cholesterol Live The Longest:
Consider the finding of Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University, who reported in 1994 that old people with low cholesterol died twice as often from a heart attack as did old people with a high cholesterol.

Most studies of old people have shown that high cholesterol is not a risk factor for coronary heart disease. Eleven studies of old people came up with that result, and a further seven studies found that high cholesterol did not predict all-cause mortality either.

Krumholz HM and others. Lack of association between cholesterol and coronary heart disease mortality and morbidity and all-cause mortality in persons older than 70 years. Journal of the American Medical Association 272, 1335-1340, 1990.

THE TRUE CAUSE OF HYPERTENSION
95% of all cases of high blood pressure are completely preventable.  When the body encounters any physical, chemical, or emotional stress certain hormones and neurotransmitters are stimulated.  If the conditions go uncorrected or unregulated, the body turns from acute stress mode (normal and natural) to chronic stress mode (abnormal and dangerous for long-term health). One of these hormones secreted under these conditions, cortisol, has several key distinguishing functions:

1.   Increases blood sugar:  Under stress, our bodies need quick energy, this is the good This increases insulin secretions, causing a switch towards fat storage, & pro-inflammatory pathways.  This continued cascade of high cortisol/high insulin eventually causes weight gain through fat storage, protein depletion and massive inflammation destroying the endothelial wall of the arteries, causing scarring, rigidity, reduced pliability & high blood pressure.

2.  Decreased Cellular Oxygenation:    Under stress, our bodies revert to short, shallow breathing habits causing lowered oxygen content and increased levels of carbon dioxide in our tissues.  This causes our metabolism to switch to anaerobic (without oxygen) sources of fuel (stored sugar and protein).  Anaerobic sources of fuel leave behind high levels of metabolic waste and free radicals which damage organ and tissue cells.     

3.   Increases Cholesterol: Cholesterol is a fatty substance in the body that is necessary for brain and neurological function in that it is a vital component for memory and learning.   Cholesterol is also needed for sex hormones (testosterone, progesterone) as well as vitamin D.  Cholesterol is a repair mechanism.  When our bodies are in stress mode, there is a need for cellular repair, therefore cholesterol naturally rises in response.  Short-term this is a good response.  Long-term, the cholesterol gets oxidized by the constant cascade of free radicals, causing further damage to arterioles.       

4Acidic Blood Stream:  High cortisol causes a lowered oxygen state within the body.  This lowered oxygen state, causes the blood stream to be acidic due to greater levels of carbon dioxide binding to the hemoglobin.  When the blood stream is acidic, the body must compensate by utilizing more water and alkaline buffering minerals to neutralize (stealing fluids & nutrients from joints, blood vessel walls and other structures such as  bone, muscle and ligaments).   
 
5.  Disrupted Sleep CyclesCortisol should naturally lower at night to allow the body to relax and fall asleep and should elevate in the morning to provide instant energy and wakefulness. When our bodies are in a chronic stress mode, we have abnormal flocculation’s which disrupt our sleep cycles and leave us groggy in the morning and exhausted throughout the day.
   
6.   Ligament LaxityElevated cortisol levels cause ligaments to become more lax.  This reduces joint stability, leading to increased susceptibility to injury.  The most important area this affects is the spine, which houses and protects the spinal cord and nerves which control the function and healing processes of the organ systems.  Chronic stress causes uncontrolled damage to the spine and nervous system, called subluxation, leading to a number of possible symptoms including pain, restricted motion, & organ dysfunction.  The most sensitive areas of the spine are at the top and the pivot from the neck to the mid-back.  When subluxation is present in these areas it affects heart and vascular function causing increased blood pressure..

Energize Your Life

Are You Satisfied With Your Life, Health, & Energy Levels?

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11

From my experience, most people in society let excuses get in the way of truly reaching out towards their goals and dreams.  It crushes me every time I see this, knowing that the individual is going to continue to fall victim to the same patterns and create the same undesireable results. The goods news is that doesn’t have to be you! 

God created our bodies with an incredible ability to heal and rejuvenate ourselves. He created our physical cells, tissues, & organs to adapt around a state of homeostasis.  Homeostasis refers to the ability of an organism to maintain equilibrium by adjusting its physiological processes. When our bodies are moving toward homeostasis – great things happen.  When we are moving away from homeostasis, we are building sickness & disease. 

            Health = A state of Purity & Sufficiency at the cellular level
            Disease = A state of Toxicity or Deficiency at the cellular level

The key to regaining and maintaining health is to provide purity and sufficiency at the cellular level.  The key problems I most often find include:   
  1. Acidic, Inflammatory Diet: The ideal internal pH is 7.365. If your blood’s pH rises or falls one tenth of a pH unit, it’s cause for a visit to a hospital’s intensive care unit.  If blood pH moves two tenths either way, it’s lethal.  *The body does whatever it must in order to maintain a steady blood pH*
Result:  Alkaline minerals are stripped from:
                                    Our bones & teeth (calcium)         Our muscles & nerves (potassium)
                                    Our arteries (magnesium)              Our joints (sodium)
                                    Excess acidity = stored in fat cells
  1. Movement Deficiency:  Proper movement is essential to all life.  Not only does it nourish your body with oxygen, but it literally feeds your cerebellum (the seat of higher maturity) through proprioceptive (movement sensation) input from the body.  .The combination of oxygen and proprioceptive nourishment rev up your body’s natural energy stores creating greater efficiency and liveliness
  1. High Stress:  Chronic stress causes an increase in the hormone cortisol which leads to glucose sparing, protein catabolism, inflammation, acid-formation, weight gain & fatigue.
  1. Poor Sleeping Habits:  Human growth hormone is known for its amazing ability to build lean body tissue & burn fat.  Many bodybuilders & athletes go to risky extremes to supplement their bodies with HGH.  However, your body will naturally supply all it needs with optimal sleeping habits such as being in bed by 10pm and waking by sunrise.
  1. Deficient Nerve Supply:  Subluxations such as forward head posture, loss of cervical curve, and lateral deviations in the spine (scoliosis) put tremendous stress on the brain-body connection affecting every organ in the body including the thyroid, adrenals, & gut. This causes numerous pathological consequences in the body including among others: poor nutrient absorption, metabolic irregularities, poor sleep, weight gain &  fatigue.

    2. Hydrated cells produce more energy with less energy expense (efficiency).
    3. Minimum:  Half your body weight in ounces of water
    4. Ideal:  Your body weight in ounces of water.  

2.  Use Probiotics:
a.   Balances essential gut microflora
b.   Enhances cellular detoxification processes
c.   Maximizes nutrient absorption & energy levels
d.   Maintains normal colon pH levels, & enhances oral health.
e.  Optimizes immune responses by inhibiting bad bacteria & viruses.

1)   Secret Key to Fermentation = Fully submerged in liquid*
2)      Chop and/or grate vegetables to create greater surface area
3)      Provide a liquid medium:  solvent for fermentation process
4)      Lots of salt, creates an osmotic effect that draws water out of vegetables.  Also, the salt prevents anaerobic bacteria formation, thus preserving the food. 
5)   Try 3 Tbsp per 5 lbs of vegetable. 
More salt = slower fermentation
Less salt = faster fermentation

     12.  Use Inulin & Fructooligosaccarides:
            1)  Prebiotics that feed the good bacteria in the digestive tract.
            2)  Naturally in raw fruits & vegetables.
            3)  Highest amounts found in asparagus, Jerusalem artichoke, garlic, chicory root.
            4)  Many supplements cotain FOS & inulin as well, important in a probiotic supp.

     13.  Increase Your L-Glutamine content:
            1)  Amino acid that is the major fuel of your intestines
2)  High in grass-fed meat products, non-denatured grass-fed whey & goat protein (Fit 365), cabbage, spinach, avocados, etc. 

     14.  Make Red Cabbage Saurkraut: 
                        1 Gallon Glass Jug (Old Olive Jar)
                        5lbs of Red Cabbage (shred small)
                        3 Tbsp of Pink Salt
                        5 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar
                        5 Lemons squeezed
Can also mix other vegetables with it.  Pack the cabbage down real tight and cover with a cheese cloth.  Put a weight on the lid to produce more pressure and pull more water of the cabbage.  Let sit for 3-5 days, scrape off the top layer of “skum” that may look moldy.  Then put in the refrigerator and eat.

15.    Go Gluten-Free: 
a.       Minimize wheat, barley, oats, rye, spelt, & kamut.
b.      Use hemp, coconut, brown rice, or quinoa flour.

16.  Get Out in the Sun: Stimulates Vitamin D production and which is a potent immune boosting pro-hormone.
a.       Minimum of 20 minutes daily without sunscreen

                                                          iii.      Fresh fruits & vegetables
